The AR5, the common name of the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s Fifth Assessment Report from 2014, analyzed 9,300 peer-reviewed research papers by scientists worldwide. The results of the analysis were clear: climate change is here, now. Its many forms—floods, superstorms, record-breaking heat waves, wildfires, and droughts, to name a few—are spawning misery, despair, and conflicts worldwide.
We find ourselves in a new era, the Anthropocene, one in which humans are the primary drivers of change on planet Earth because of the excess carbon we release into the atmosphere.
